i'm watching the voyager pilot for the first time in 14 years. it's actually not as bad as the rest of the series. but the dialog is still *terrible*. i just wanted to make a post. that's all.

divx, h.264
to increase my dorkery, i've been experimenting with digitizing my own video (tv capture, dvd) so as to store in ye olde itunes library. i've had a big bias for h.264 because it's supported out of the box with all my gadgets, but divx is pulling me in. it's faster to encode, looks crisper, and has smaller file sizes. i just wish i could hack my ipod to handle it (for a mac, just open it in quicktime and save it in a movie wrapper -- then itunes will play it. [applescript upon request]). blah blah blah. i still don't get the ogg camp, though. aac for a shelf life!

tv r krad
so! what have i been watching recently? there's my usual batch of cw shows: "supernatural", "smallville", "one tree hill", "gossip girl", "90210", "melrose place", and antm. i've also sort of been watching "the vampire diaries", and apart from mia (degrassi name) being stupid, i'm warming up to the show. boone from lost was an *excellent* choice for the "bad" brother. and their vampires have to wear magical amulets in order to be in the sun, which punches twilight in its ugly face. "one tree hill" is very different without peyton and lucas, because there's no one to annoy me! at least they brought rachael back, and i ♥ her. "smallville" is still dragging out ck's transformation into superman, and it's getting tiresome. but does anyone else have the biggest crush on green arrow? justin hartley, why must you be so pretty?!
let's skip ahead to "sg-u". i still can't decide if it's worthwhile. the head scientist guy is really obnoxious, and the little geek makes my eyes roll. but i have a feeling that once they finally meet some aliens and explore more of the ship, that it just might come around. it's still a weird mix of ripping off galactica and voyager, plus ripping off early "stargate atlantis" ("systems failing! need zpms!"). but the casting seems good. i look forward to it.
then i watched all of "the mighty boosh" recently. if you haven't heard of it, it's a british comedy that embraced the surreal. each season (er.. "series") has the main 4 characters in a different situation. zookeepers in series 1, a band in series 2, and the "nabootique" in series 3. continuity isn't followed that strictly, but it's funnnnnnyyyyyy. watch. there are torrents.
speaking of torrents, i was finally able to find "saddam's tribe: bound by blood", a discovery times special that isn't available in any other way. they don't even replay it on what is now "investigation discovery". but it RULES! the actors all did fine jobs portraying the contradiction that was saddam hussein, and the psychopaths in his family. i don't know how accurate it is, but it sure is entertaining. uday was one crazy motherfucker.

and i'm using some wireless from god-knows-where. it's probably a honeypot that logs all http traffic. anyway. it's hot. i have work i need to be doing on my other computer. this sucks. time to go see if the managers are around...

[Link] | so the joke is that i look like adam levine from maroon 5. so yesterday, at target, i was amused to find a bunch of adam levine "inspired" guitar stuff, including a replica of his guitar plus a teensy amp on clearance for $99. since i finally got my paycheck sorted out at work, i'm momentarily flush, so i got it. who doesn't need a guitar around to smash? but the ridiculous part is that it plays hella better than my epiphone sg junior. the fretboard is so much nicer on my target guitar! anyway, the whole situation amuses me. best part? i still can't play guitar worth a damn.
in orther news, yesterday i went out and got "the legendary starfy" and "broken sword: shadow of the templars" for my ds. starfy's really fun, and a deceptively easy mario-like game. so far "broken sword" is just another point and click "adventure", but it sucks because it has to deal with the ds's resolution. i also got "dracula: origin" for my comput4r, and it's kind of gross and kind of boring. i like it better, though, because it has better point-click mechanics.

chase sucks. they're very slow to update their online site with recent transactions (days and days slow), thus causing me to overdraw. and then they give me a huge fee. so those of you using other banks, does yours not have this problem? (wamu didn't have this problem. i was spoiled.)

* it's broken. it's an LG50 37" 1080i(p?) with all the connectors you could ask for in the back. the trouble is, i punched it dead-on one day, and it hasn't worked since. i'd planned to just take it to a tv repair shop, but i haven't gotten around to it. so YOU lj-friends, you who seem to do so much stuff so effortlessly, wanna get free broken tv that will probably cost about $300 to repair? xoxo

i've developed quite a taste for the today show. i like matt, al, meredith, kathie-lee, and hoda with the imaginary last name! and i like seeing the bands they have play. so far, i've seen the jonas brothers, taylor swift, no doubt, and david bowie. they're all terrible! and have back-up singers! it's great. and al's just so out of control... ok! now if you haven't all taken me off of your friends list now, i will give you $1! (only available to friends as of date of this posting) (also, you must pry it from my cold, dead mandibles.)
oh! and yesterday i went to visit some friends at that amma convention thing, and rocked it with my awesome friend jenny (to whom i owe both versions of the sorceress), and we're TOTALLY dating! TOTALLY. we're engaged, actually. it's a scandal! ;) no, but she did put me to work! i was selling these awesome little tapestries with different hindu gods on them, but i didn't know who any of the deities were! i kept guessing, "harrison ford? madonna?". then we watched amma give hugs and everyone tried to get me to do the darshan, too, by telling me wild stories of what she'd say, and what she'd know, and how she'd help you know what to do, and i gotta say -- i was almost convinced. but not quite! i'm totally convinced that amma and her organizations are totally legit and do not fit the definition for a cult. but i'm scared to death that maybe she does know everything, or is a telepath, and she'll hit that one nerve that i need to cry about and i'll feel stupid wearing all black around everyone in all white and be crying on a stage. so not hardcore! anyway, i have a certain name i like people to call me.

so, work has been fucking up my checks, and made a "correction" to the tune of me eating too many pbjs and having pbr instead of greener pastures. it sucks. i hate it. i hate how much i fucked myself up with my credit card debt. anyway, it's been a beautiful stretch of days, and i wish i hadn't gotten so sunburned already. otherwise, i'd be out there! and my bbq crew is in places elsewhere. oh, well. so i've been spending too much time on fb and okc. refresh, refresh, refresh... maybe it's time to text people! :D

i have a question: with so many sites out there to update with thoughts and ramblings (facebook, twitter, myspace, livejournal, personal website), how do you know which one to send to? does livejournal get all the long posts, myspace all the long emo poetry, twitter the snarky comments, facebook little scientific discoveries, and album reviews on your personal website?
